Walking the Red Carpet to Auction

Last Thursday’s auction at LJ Hooker House saw 4 properties sold out of the 5 that went under the hammer, giving our auction rooms  an 80% clearance rate. That’s a great result!

The most encouraging factor of the night was the upbeat attitude and spirited bidding from purchasers. This is most likely attributed to the RBA’s decision to drop interest rates last Tuesday. Buyers now have more confidence in returning to the property sector, with the increased understanding that we are nearing the bottom of this cycle with capital growth expected by the end of 2013.

The auction represented the good old days of property auctions with fierce and competitive bidding and a high number of registrations.

What was evidenced last Thursday was a revitalised auction system. This re-birth of confidence within buyers is great news for vendors who are considering listing their property.

What does owner Sue Roebuck love about Kirribilli?

“It’s a fabulous area, I’ve lived around here for 15 years and had my business for nearly 12, there are so many interesting people, a little bit of tourism comes through for the greatest view in Sydney (the Harbour Bridge and Opera House), so it’s an interesting mixture of people” she says . “I love the water, the bridge and the theatre, it’s all going on, great restaurants, great food and a vibrant village atmosphere”.

As a mother of a 2 year old, Sue will actually be working on Mothers Day! She loves being a mother, and says “it’s priceless, magnificent and gorgeous!”

Our LJ Hooker team takes the City2Surf challenge for charity

Twenty three LJ Hooker Mosman staff members have taken up the challenge to compete in the world’s largest fun run for cancer research.

The team have snatched up a selection of City2Surf Golden Charity Spots, which are reserved for dedicated fundraisers.

Our charity of choice is the Australian Cancer Research Foundation, the largest private funding body for cancer research in the country. We were inspired to join the fight to prevent and find cures for cancer.

Everyone is touched by this devastating disease and with the generous support of our local community, we can help make a difference.

“We’ve formed a great team together, almost half of our office here at 102 Glover Street, Mosman, have signed up so far,” says Josh Culnane, Sales Agent and team trainer.  “I’m looking forward to hitting the road for training over the next few weeks, getting fit for the selling season and raising funds for charity”.

Susan Cowell, one of our fabulous Front of House managers here at LJ Hooker House has been the driving force behind the team.

“We’re called the LJ Hooker “Hoofers,” says Susan, “You can follow our progress and donate on our ‘Every Day Hero’ fundraising page for the City to Surf. We’re thrilled to be supporting this wonderful cause. The ‘Charity Challenge’ brings us together as a team to participate together, to make a small difference and help to provide much needed funding for important research.”

The ACRF provides up to $10 million in cancer research grants to the very best cancer research projects right across Australia.

In Sydney alone, they have awarded grants totalling $21.2 million to five leading research centres (some on the City2Surf route) since 2007.

“We’re delighted and thankful to see LJ Hooker Mosman’s commitment to putting in the hard yards at the City2Surf for our organisation. They reflect a wider, very exciting trend of corporate involvement in the charitable sector,” said ACRF Chief Executive, David Brettell.

“Research and more research is the key to defeating cancer, but this vital work doesn’t happen by itself.”

“Our work is fully privately funded and so we rely on fantastic individuals and organisations like LJ Hooker Mosman to help us continue to fund breakthrough cancer research in Australia” he says.

If you’d like to donate please visit our ‘Every Day Hero’ fundraising page.
